Home Insurance For First-time Home Buyers
Buying a home can be scary. You’re probably spending more money than you have ever before. You have many different decisions to make – Realtor, mortgage company, and insurance agency. Home insurance in Indiana has many different options. Besides deciding on your Fishers insurance agent (hopefully it’s us!), you have to decide which insurance company you want to use and which coverages you want to purchase.
That’s where we can help. When you work with Curry Agency for your home insurance needs, we’ll ask you a few questions about you and your co-purchaser (if any). Then we’ll ask a bunch of questions about the house you’re purchasing. Insurance agents are concerned with how much the home would cost to rebuild, not necessarily the market value.
Every home insurance policy in Indiana will cover the home, your personal property (your clothes, furniture, etc.), and insurance coverage to protect you in the event you are sued. We want to be as accurate as possible when we offer home insurance to you.
Depending on your home and where it’s located, you may want to purchase other coverages, such as backup of water through sewers and drains, earthquake insurance, and coverage for things such as jewelry or collectibles
The amount of coverage can differ based on the age of the home, the construction of the home, the size, number of stories, and other things within the home. Once we figure out how much we think it will cost to rebuild the home, we figure out the value of personal property. This can vary tremendously depending on the amount of “stuff” you have and the value of everything.
The liability coverage amounts on your Indiana home insurance will vary based on your assets and your lifestyle. For example, if you have a dog and a pool, you may want more liability coverage than someone who doesn’t.
